DuckDB: Big Data Unplugged

DuckDB, this nifty open-source database from Amsterdam, has taken the database world by storm. In this talk, I dive into what makes DuckDB special and what type of new system architectures it inspired. I demonstrate how DuckDB turns your portable devices into a powerful data processing machine. Finally, I explain our new lakehouse format, DuckLake, that allows DuckDB to run on cheap storage and act as a multiplayer system.

Gábor Szárnyas is a developer advocate at DuckDB Labs. He previously worked as an academic researcher on data processing systems. He obtained his PhD in software engineering and was a post-doctoral researcher at CWI Amsterdam, the birthplace of DuckDB. He is also a core contributor and board member of the LDBC non-profit company that defines benchmarks for graph data management systems.
